ABSTRACT

In convection heat transfer the patern of fluid flow influince on the rate of heat transfer. In the channel with constan cross section, patern of fluid flow be able to change with dissturbance.
In this investigation rate of heat transfer will be compared betwen the flow with and without disturbance, in the rectangular channel.
The investigation be done by conducting water at 500C in the rectangular channel, with lenght P=30 cm, width L = 5,2 cm. The wall channel, either one is steel with 8 mm thick and the other is steel with 5 mm thick. The steel wall with 8 mm thick get in touch with cold water (mix of ice and water) and the other wall isolated.Reynold number from 50 to 500, based on hydraulic diameter of cross section channel. Ratio width of channel and disturbing rod diameter, L/d = 2 and S/d = 2 and 4.
The result of investigation show that heat transfer ratein rectangular channel with disturbing rod higher than without disturbing rod. Where the Nuselt number for rectangular channel with disturbing rod, for S/d = 4 and S/d =2 is 6,5 % and 15% higher than the rectangular channel without disturbing rod.
