ABSTRACT

Until now concrete construction is still favourite choice, caused its good serviceability. On the other hand, concrete made by natural material that getting smaller in amount, so it is important to find other material that can be used as concrete, such as industrial waste or other material, especially cement.
Cement is the most expensive material, but the function of cement in concrete could influence the performance high strength concrete. So finding the alternative material is one solution in producing concrete. Blitar’s Iron sands contain of Fe2O3 = 54.31%, SiO2 = 29.95%, MgO = 5.12%, specific gravity = 4.2, and size of grain 80 –100 mesh, so it could be used as substitute material.
Paste, mortar, and concrete cylinder are samples that used in the research with 10% of iron sands to the weight of cement with finest 200 mesh, 225 mesh, and 250 mesh. Compressive strength tested in 3, 7, 21, 28, 56, and 56 days of age, in order to observe the effect of iron sands powder in concrete. 28 day’s Concrete cylinder samples are used in elasticity modulus tests.
The result shows that for paste with 250 mesh increases 11.46% in compressive strength compare to normal paste. Mortar increases about 14.29%, and concrete cylinder increases 8.9%. The value of stress-strain relation for concrete plus 10% iron sands also increase about 10.56% compared to normal concrete.

Keywords: iron sands, stress-strain, high strength concrete, paste, mortar, and concrete cylinder.
