ABSTRACT
This research was aimed to get shear strength and drift ratio improvement number from retrofitting shear failure square short column by concrete jacket method. Six 150 mm by 150 mm basic columns and with 450 mm net height concern on testing for cyclic lateral load that representing earthquake load and for eccentric constant axial load that representing gravitation load. Basic column completes with 614,5 mm longitudinal bars and 5-150 mm transverse reinforcement. The basic columns were designed to fail in shear. After testing the basic column, then the column appears being repaired by removed concrete cover of the basic column, enlarging existing cross section through new concrete layer that adding longitudinal and transverse reinforcement. The repaired basic column then is called as retrofit column. Result of testing indicate that shear strength significantly increases within retrofit column. Shear strenght increment in retrofit column ranges for 142,7% of basic column. Drift ratio of retrofit column develops into 1,95%, while drift ratio of basic column achieves for 0,73%.
