ABSTRACT

Transportation is one of the important part to support public activities. Surabaya is the main of East Java Province, is developed continually. To anticipate this development, the main support of transportation sector is very important. Surabaya is connected with the other cities, Yogyakarta is one of them. Surabaya–Yogyakarta is the important route in middle of corridor road, because it is related two main province cities in Indonesia. This route has important meaning as an infrastructure which are relating and supporting city surround, like Mojokerto, Jombang, Nganjuk, Madiun, Ngawi etc. The mode type which services this route are consist of rail and bus. There is a competition between business rail and express bus. The characteristic of the users and mode choice factors are important to be known so that supply of transportation mode can be realized. This study is aimed to identify the factors that influence the mode choice between business rail and express bus. Methods which is used to collect data are instantional method and questionaire. Data analyzed is descriptive analyzed. The result of this study is the factors that influence mode choice between business rail and express bus are travel time, accessibility, fare, punctuality, safety, frequency and comfort.
