ABSTRACT

The objective of this research is to study the effect of tempering temperature of MS 705 shaft steel on fatigue life and macrostructure change. The measurement has been performed at five type speciment: raw material, hardening material, tempering 150 oC material, tempering 400 oC material, tempering 650 oC material. The fatigue test speciment as ASTM standard test. The conclusion of this research are the hardening and tempering processes can change the macrostructure and fatigue life of material. Fatigue life will be in lowest position when material has been hardened and tempered at 150 oC. On this position the S-N diagram is almost close. The fatigue life will reach the higest position at the tempering temperature 400 oC. In the mean time on 650 oC, the fatigue life will reach the lowest position.
