ABSTRACK

Crack on structural element may be caused by construction defect, both static and dynamic working load and environmental effect such as a high temperature. On building construction, thermal loading during fire is undesired condition and it must be avoided as much as possible. It is because fire in long time is often indirect cause of destruction of a building. However, to know stress distribution around cracked area on concrete beam is very important which has been cracked as result of thermal effects. Crack on beam with fixed support as result of temperature rise propagates horizontally (lower side of beam) in direction of element stress. This is caused by compressive stress as result of temperature rise which is more dominant than tensile stress as result of static force. Therefore initial crack won’t cause beam fracture, but temperature rise will cause cracks on the lower side of the beam. With fixed support, the temperature in the beam has significant effect on beam cracking in particular crack as result of compressive stress.
